Our year ended with sunny, blue skies

and greenish grey eyes

one last roadtrip to Seaworld



board games at night

and puppet shows

hot chocolate with all the trimmings

while watching Tangled

things that never get old.

and pink, bubbly New Year's Eve cupcakes

only a taste for Emerson

This New Year's Eve I gave Emi his bedtime bottle. When he finished and fell asleep, I held him longer instead of putting him in his crib.

I thought of last year.

Midway through my pregnancy.

It's a boy!

Good results from the amnio.

The words of my doctor music to my ears,

A PERFECT BOY.

And me, joyful but sick as a dog

knowing from experience I had another 5 months of sickness to go.

I thought of this year.

Here with my baby boy

sleeping comfortably on me.

Teething, poor thing.

Perfect, indeed.

I thought of next year.

He will be 20 months old,

a full blown toddler.
Time is a funny thing.

In the not too distant future I will look at my photos of tonight and say, "Can you believe how tiny he was!" Just like we say about Mia.

So if I could just hold for a minute, this baby on New Year's Eve, I will make the moment last.

And while I'm sitting peacefully thinking (this never happens)

I will wish a happy new year to my dear family and friends.

The ones near,

and the ones far, too far.
